Cabin in the Woods

This pastel was painted over a watercolor painting that I never finished . . . . a technique which I recently discovered was fun and able to preserve a painting that I probably would have tossed. In applying pastel over watercolor, I am able to alter or cover things that I don't like.  In this case, I completely simplified this scene into a simple strong composition with a nice dark foundation and contrast of temperature, complementary colors and sharp edges near the focal point.  It is another one of my favorites!!
