Pink Camelias 1

This painting was done from life some years ago when several of my artist friends and I got together to paint.  I worked on a soft green surface that I prepared in a workshop taught by Elsie Popkin, a well-know pastel artist from Winston-Salem, NC.  The soft printing paper was covered with a blended mixture of white Gesso, Hookers Green acrylic paint and pumice which gave the surface a slightly sanded surface to hold the pastel.  I love the contrast of the complementary colors of red and green with tiny bits of the soft green paper showing through.
