Calabash Marina

This scene at Calabash, a sleepy little fishing village on the North Carolina coast, was started on location and completed in the studio. I loved the sky colors and began with a hot pink under painting so I could let some of that color show through the successive layers.  Every time I look at this painting, I remember so well, standing in that spot with my easel all ready to begin and the wind blowing my pastels all over the place. Many, to my dismay, were lost in the sand and marsh grasses.
