Soft Snow

This winter landscape began as a textured watercolor background in shades of Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber. I discovered it recently and  could visualize a rolling winter landscape, so I decided to be creative and develop it into a pastel painting. Normally I tend to have strong dark values in my paintings, but, in order to maintain the softness of the original background, I kept the values "high-key" and in the upper range of the value scale. I love the soft calm mood that created.
