Tulips-Red and Yellow

What a fun way to begin a painting!!  I began with a mono-print by spreading sticky, water-based black oil paint (with a roller) onto a piece of glass  and then wiping off (with a Viva paper towel) the light or white areas. In this case, I wiped off the flowers, stems and leaves. I then carefully placed a piece of print-making paper onto the glass and then rubbed it with the roller or my hands.  When I pulled the paper off the glass, I had a mono-print (reversed from the original photo.)  The background was black ink and the flowers and leaves were white where I had wiped off the paint.  My "dark shape" design was already on the paper, so I continued the painting by using soft pastels,  following the values and creating the color values of the flowers.
