Loved this tranquil little pond in Hilton Head, SC. I was in a painting workshop, and our instructor had us begin by looking for the big shapes in our scene. Once we could translate our scene into the puzzel-like pieces, we were to paint each individual piece the one general color that piece looked like to us and to paint it with dabs of impressionistic color, leaving white space around each piece. This felt quite strange to me since I look for the underlying dark shapes first, which, in my opinion, hold the painting together and give it the depth it needs. As we continued applying the dabs of paint, fusing in other colors and working over those white spaces, it did eventually come together, but I struggled with the technic and decided it just wasn't my way to paint.
