I have painted many winter landcapes in watercolor because I love the technic of leaving much of the white of the paper showing and snow provides the perfect opportunity for this. This is one I painted from memory, creating my own composition with the evergreen trees. The distant ones and the sky were painted "wet-in-wet" where the paint was applied to a surface that was already wet, thus creating the beautiful soft trees and fluid clouds, not possible in painting on dry paper. This can be tricky to accomplish because the timing affects how soft and fluid the paint spreads. The closer trees are painted on dry paper to make them appear closer. I also love the simplicity of color which provides color harmony throughout the painting.
