In hiking the Appalachian Trail, I have numerous opportunities to see views similar to this one, and, each time, I long to have my pastels in my backpack. My camera is lighter in weight and smaller in my pack, so most of these paintings are done from photos; even so, the color of the light, the shadows and the values are vivid in my memory so that I can portray them accurately as I saw them.
