The dogwood trees are magnificent in NC and, as a result, the dogwood is our state tree. The grounds and gardens of Reynolda House are profuse with them, and each and every one is beautiful and unique in it's own way. This was painted on location as the afternoon sun was beginning to wane. I loved the way it shone on the white petals and so I focused on them, creating a different and unique tree composition.
